Toyota Prado Fuel System

Prado fuel system hardware changed drastically between generations. The J90 1KZ-TE runs a mechanical rotary injector pump — simple, serviceable and happy on poor-grade diesel. The J120 1KD-FTV moved to common-rail with high-pressure electronic injectors. The J150 1GD-FTV continues common-rail with tighter tolerances and more sensors. 1KD-FTV injectors are the single most common fuel-system failure on high-km Prados — budget R2,500-R4,500 per injector with working codes, or R10k-R18k for a tested set of four. We also carry the in-tank lift pumps, which fail less often but are expensive new. Long-range auxiliary fuel tanks (Long Ranger, Brown Davis) come off stripped overlanding rigs at R8k-R15k depending on condition and capacity. Always specify whether your Prado is common-rail (J120 and J150) or mechanical (J90 1KZ-TE) — the two fuel families share virtually nothing.
