Toyota Hi-Ace Suspension

The Hi-Ace suspension is built for fleet abuse — torsion-bar front independent (H50) or double-wishbone with coil springs (H100), and a rear leaf-spring live axle across the full range. Rear leaf springs are the highest-volume consumable — taxi and panel-van operators ran these vehicles loaded for years, and the leaf packs eventually sag past serviceable ride height.

New aftermarket heavy-duty leaf-spring packs for the H100 Hi-Ace run R2,800-R5,500 per side from the JHB depot. Used OEM packs from CPT-dismantled donors at R1,200-R2,400 per side — inspected for cracks at the eye and droop tested against reference dimensions. Always replace both sides together on a Hi-Ace to keep ride height and load distribution even. Front shocks run R400-R900 per side new aftermarket; used OEM R180-R450 per side. Tie-rod ends and ball joints are cheap consumables that fail predictably at 100,000-180,000 km intervals.
