Do I need a catalytic converter on a Cressida in SA?

Pre-1996 Cressidas were not fitted with catalytic converters from the factory and are not legally required to have them for SA roadworthy. Most X70 and X80 cars on the road run a simple cat-back system straight through a muffler. If the original cat-free downpipe has rusted out, a mandrel-bend replacement in mild steel runs R1,500-R2,800 at the JHB-referred fabricator.

Can I fit a stainless system to the MX83?

Yes — stainless cat-back systems are the standard upgrade for X80 MX83 owners, especially on 7M-GE and 1JZ-swapped cars. Full custom stainless from headers to tip runs R8,500-R18,000 through a specialist fabricator. We refer rather than fabricate in-house. For a factory-correct restoration, we stock mild-steel replica systems at R2,500-R4,500.

Are 7M-GE exhaust manifolds still available used?

Intermittently. The 7M-GE cast iron manifold cracks between runners under heat cycling, so clean low-mileage examples are scarce. When CPT has stock, pricing runs R2,800-R5,500. Tubular stainless manifold replacements via specialist builders start at R6,500. Register interest and we'll call when a donor manifold passes the crack inspection.
