Electrical for Toyota Cressida

Cressida electrical systems are simple by modern standards — no CAN bus, no immobiliser, no VIN-locked ECU — which makes diagnosis easier but parts scarcer. We cover toyota cressida electrical stock including alternators, starter motors, distributors, ignition coils, voltage regulators, relays, fuses, wiring harness sections and the 7M-GE ECU for MX83 buyers. Both depots bench-test electrical modules before sale because reproduction supply is near zero.

Alternators on the 22R and 7M-GE are typically the voltage regulator rather than the full unit — we sell regulators separately as a cheaper repair path (R450-R850) rather than forcing you to buy a reconditioned alternator at R1,800-R3,500. Starter motors wear the Bendix gear long before the motor itself fails; we have Bendix gear replacement kits for the 22R starter. Engine bay wiring harnesses from donor cars are sold complete with connectors and looming diagrams — critical for any restoration that has been apart for more than a few years.

Electrical for Toyota Cressida — Frequently Asked

Is the 7M-GE ECU still available for the MX83 Cressida?

Used OEM 7M-GE ECUs appear intermittently from drift donors that went standalone. Typical price R3,500-R7,500 tested. Because the Cressida ECU is not VIN-locked, any matched unit will run once the distributor and AFM signals check out. We bench-test every ECU on a running MX83 donor before sale and supply the pin-out diagram.

Do you stock Cressida alternators?

Yes. Reconditioned 22R and 7M-GE alternators are available from the CPT depot, typically R1,800-R3,500 tested. If the existing unit is only undercharging (not dead), consider replacing just the voltage regulator at R450-R850 — far cheaper and a straightforward roadside repair on the 22R. We stock both routes.

Can I use an aftermarket ignition harness on a Cressida?

For drift and restomod builds, yes — aftermarket standalone looms for the 7M-GE (and 1JZ swap) are routinely used. Supply through specialist importers, not off-shelf. For factory-spec restoration, we recommend used OEM harnesses cut to length from donor MX83 cars — the connectors and routing are correct and the insulation is still serviceable on low-mileage donors.
